A Letter to Karen
To all the Karens of the world,
It might not occur to you that the hosts that you are yelling at behind the counter are just college students trying to make extra money to help them with their growing student debt. These kids would rather risk getting COVID than be financially unstable. So when you yell at them for an order being late for things beyond their control, just know that they have emotions too.
It might not occur to you that while you are getting an amazing deal for half off from all of our sushi and platters, the chefs that are making them are not robots. They are well trained to handle large amounts of orders but if you come early to pick up your order they cannot magically make your sushi any faster.
It may not even cross your mind that the person taking your order is in fact, a person. When you throw a paper with your order at this person while you are on the phone expecting your order to be placed, you are treating this person like a servant. (Sadly, our team members have been called servants in a certain review.)
While this is all happening, it may not even occur to you how your negative Yelp Reviews can hurt a business that is already struggling. Many of us depend on tips to survive, and the industry that we depend on to pay our bills is slowly dying with little to no support. Guaranteed, there are many bad restaurant owners out there that are out to exploit customers but when you write these reviews for honest people who make genuine mistakes you not only take away their chance to improve by not addressing it directly but you rob them of the opportunity to give another customer a better service by turning others away. With more and more negative Yelp reviews it not only hurts our business but it hurts the industry and the people that depend on it to survive.
So before you write anything, we urge you to think of our team members. We will continue to do our best to provide you all with quality food and service and constant improvement despite these crazy circumstances. All we ask is for your understanding and should any matter need to be mitigated whether small or large please give us the decency of a fair chance to change it without hurting the livelihood of our staff.
Sincerely,
Sushi Damu
